Voting process begins in November – members will be notified when it is time to vote. 

To vote – click on the link for each class number, i.e., Class 1, you will be redirected to PollUnit.  You do not require a PollUnit account.  However, PollUnit may ask for your Name and then you will proceed as a Guest.

Class Details:

Class 1: The Colour Purple – A photo of one or more purple flowers from a Canadian garden.  It can be your own garden or one you visited.  Image can be panoramic, close-up or macro.  Please identify the location of the garden when submitting.

Class 2: Spring Time Panoramic View – A panoramic image of spring bulbs or plants from an Ottawa garden.  It can be your own garden or one you visited.  Include at least 3 varieties of bulbs/plants.  Please identify the location of the garden when submitting. 

Class 3: Close-up! – ‘Rose is a rose is a rose is a rose’ (Gertrude Stein poem Sacred Emily 1913).  A photo close-up of your favorite rose, bloom or cluster.  The whole bloom/cluster is to fill most or all of the photo frame.  No partial images of the flower will be accepted.  Location:  open.

Class 4: Garden Path – A photo of a garden path that takes in a variety of plants and shrubs. Location:  open.

Class 5: Salad Display – A photo of your favorite salad composed of fruit, vegetables, and/or herbs from your garden or locally grown.

Class 6: Winter Scene – Your interpretation of a snow scene highlighting floral/horticultural elements.    Location:  open.

Class 7: Year of the Dragon – This is a flora and fauna photo specifically of any insect with wings such as dragonflies, bees, butterflies and moths found in your garden or one you came across on a nature walk.  No other animal photos will be accepted.  Photo must include 40% floral/horticultural component.  Location:  open.

By submitting photos to any MHS site you are granting MHS permission to: 1) publish the photos with your first and last name; 2) re-use the photos to promote events, and when possible, include your name.
